Michael Blais began his cello studies at the age of 2  1/2. Coming from a musical family and mother who is a founding member of the NAC Orchestra it was a natural progression.  He began his studies with Sarah Loten under the Suzuki method.  At the age of 7 He began studying with David Hutchenreuther under the traditional method and continued these studies with various other teachers such a Margaret Tobolowska and Elizabeth Dolin.  This included weekly Orchestral, chamber music, and theory lessons.  Michael yearly attended Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix International Music Summer Academy, the Young Artist program under Pinchas Zukerman and the internationally acclaimed faculty in Ottawa and the prestigious Morning Side Music Bridge in Calgary, collaborating and performing with some of Canada's and China's best young musicians  

He then attended the Glenn Gould School in Toronto studying with both Brian Epperson and Carole Sirois.  During these years he had the opportunity to perform with various professional orchestras, as well as numerous concerts(solo and chamber) and performances at venues on behalf of the Glenn Gould school.

Michael returned to Ottawa and began his teaching and performing career. He performed with the NAC orchestra, various duos, trios, and quartets and various other orchestras around Ottawa.

He then took his Suzuki Training courses on cello in Montreal and Waterloo and kept up his Pursuit of learning by taking lessons with the world renowned Hans Jorgen Jensen, David Geber(Manhattan School  of Music) and many others.  

Michael taught with Ottawa Suzuki Strings for many years, as well as music programs throughout various Montessori’s and the Vinci school in Ottawa.
